Project Profile
Specialty Chemical Plant – Reactor Replacement Piping
Pipe Stress Analysis
Fast-track pipe stress and nozzle load analysis for PVDF-lined stainless steel piping connected to a replacement chemical reactor.
The Work
Project Overview
When a specialty chemical plant in Sauget, Illinois replaced a first-stage reactor, JSC Engineers analyzed the PVDF-lined stainless steel piping connected to it, including hydrochloric acid service. The CAESAR II work evaluated a reroute study and an expansion joint alternative. JSC also qualified nozzle loads on the new 13,800-pound reactor using NozzlePRO finite element analysis. Restraint load tables were issued and updated through three revisions on a fast-track outage schedule, with the core scope completed in approximately two weeks from authorization. The analysis protected the lined piping and reactor nozzles while supporting the plant's turnaround schedule.
