Project Profile
Las Vegas Resort – Expansion Joint Replacement Engineering
Pipe Stress Analysis
Field investigation and pipe stress analysis to establish replacement criteria for leaking hot-water expansion joints at a Las Vegas resort.
The Work
Project Overview
When two aging hot-water expansion joints began leaking on 10-inch piping at a major Las Vegas resort, the mechanical contractor engaged JSC Engineers to establish the engineering basis for replacement. With no as-built documentation for the original joints and no apparent system anchoring, JSC performed a site investigation to verify existing conditions. The team then built a CAESAR II model of the system operating at 140 psi and 180 degrees F to determine the thermal movement the replacement joints must accommodate. The analysis evaluated candidate joints and anchor arrangements, giving the contractor verified selection criteria based on current system behavior.
