Project Profile
Takeda Pharmaceutical – Distillation & Separation System
Pipe Stress Analysis
JSC Engineers provided specialized pipe stress analysis services for a packaged distillation and separation system at Takeda Pharmaceutical’s facility in Los Angeles, California. The system was designed to improve product quality and raw material purity while supporting the facility’s sustainability and emissions reduction goals.
The Work
Project Overview
Our team performed a comprehensive pipe stress analysis in accordance with ASME B31.3, including seismic considerations applicable to Southern California. The scope included thermal and vacuum distillation piping, CO₂ capture systems, and solvent recovery piping within the packaged process unit. The analysis evaluated operating, sustained, thermal expansion, and seismic load cases to verify code compliance and system reliability.
Pipe stresses, displacements, and equipment connection loads were reviewed to ensure safe operation under both normal and extreme loading conditions. Special attention was given to thermal growth, vacuum conditions, and restraint behavior within the compact packaged system arrangement.
The resulting analysis provided clear guidance on required supports, restraints, and flexibility improvements, helping ensure reliable long-term operation while meeting Takeda’s process performance and sustainability objectives.
JSC Engineers delivers expert pipe stress analysis in Los Angeles for pharmaceutical, industrial, and process facilities, with a focus on code compliance, seismic design, and constructible solutions.
